Tasting notes

The 2023 Angelo’s Vineyard Red Field Blend exhibits a graceful evolution from its predecessor, offering a plush, finely knit texture framed by lively acidity and polished tannins. Layers of red and dark fruit unfold effortlessly, complemented by hints of dried herbs and crushed stone. Each varietal contributes nuance and harmony, unified through the co-fermentation approach that defines this field blend. The palate carries remarkable poise and energy, tapering into a persistent finish accented by savory spice and a whisper of warm earth—an authentic reflection of Dry Creek Valley’s character in the 2023 growing season.

Production notes
The 2023 Angelo’s Vineyard Red Field Blend is composed primarily of 75% Syrah, co-fermented with a thoughtful selection of complementary red and white varietals to build depth and aromatic lift. The fruit was fermented as whole clusters, contributing grain and energy to the structure while enhancing the wine’s savory profile. Following fermentation, the blend rested for 10 months in seasoned 600L demi-muids, which preserved freshness and allowed the wine’s natural character to shine through with minimal oak influence.
The resulting wine is expressive and textural, defined by Syrah’s dark fruit and spice, balanced by floral and mineral undertones—a vivid expression of the 2023 vintage and the spirit of Sonoma County craftsmanship.

The story of Angelo’s Vineyard began with the planting of Syrah rootstock in its picturesque setting. Inspired by the Loire Valley, Winemaker Matt Taylor brought cuttings back to Sonoma, carefully storing them for future grafting. As the rootstock matured, Matt grafted these cuttings, creating a unique field blend of five to six varietals.
Last year’s inaugural harvest unveiled a groundbreaking wine that honors the Mascarin family’s Italian heritage and Mia’s great-grandfather’s legacy. This blend reflects a harmonious balance of old-world tradition and new-world innovation, rooted in the history of the Italian-Swiss colony and Dry Creek Valley. It is a living tribute to Sonoma County’s sustainable winemaking and the passion embedded in every vine.
